It was announced early last week that Dylan Langan had completed his fifth opera: Little Red Riding Hood. The opera is based off the original Brothers' Grimm tale, with some notable changes. The opera is proceeded by Langan's Rise of the Roaches (2015), Death of Maria (2015), Echo (2016), and Madness (2016). Langan composed the work to help celebrate Vera Causa Opera's new Kids' Opera series.
Langan commented: "It is so important that we write operas for kids, and that kids have the opportunity to see them. Vera Causa Opera is a great way for kids to do just that: Little Red Riding Hood has been designed from head to toe with kids in mind. There are also some great jokes for the adults."
You can see the premiere of Little Red Riding Hood on February 16th or February 17th, 2018. Attending the opera is free for two kids with every $15 adult ticket. More information and tickets are available at https://www.vcopera.ca.
This completion also puts Langan one step closer to reaching his goal of composing 10 operas by the age of 25.
